Artists’ Ways: A Photo & Video Exhibition by Patrice D. Bowman
Filmshop House, Governors Island
July 12 – August 10, 2025
Join us at the Filmshop House for the debut solo exhibition of filmmaker and FSer, Patrice D. Bowman
Artists’ Ways is a powerful photo and video series inspired by Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way. Through intimate portraits and reflective visuals, Bowman captures the creative rituals of New York-based artists, offering a layered exploration of identity, collaboration, and the personal process of making art.
Each image invites us into the artist’s space, mid-creation. The exhibit also includes works by the featured artists, building a conversation between the photographer and her subjects.
This exhibition is an act of community and a reminder that artistic growth is rarely solitary.

Artist’s Statement
2025 has been a challenging year for me. Personally, I felt unmotivated. Professionally, I felt underappreciated. Artistically, I felt unfulfilled.
In the spring, I picked up a book that once helped me find direction—The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. It reignited a desire to connect and co-create.
This photo series is the result of that journey.
With the generous spirit of fellow artists, I photographed them in their spaces—mid-process, mid-thought, mid-creation. I invited them to collaborate with the camera, rather than perform for it.
Thanks to Filmshop, I now get to share this work with you. I hope it reminds you that the act of making is sacred, messy, and—at its best—shared.
